Geothermal Heating Systems

Established Technology Blooming in Colorado

separator

The installation of ground source heat pump 'heating and cooling' systems in Colorado is escalating as home and business owners alike realize how they can use this technology to cut energy use by two-thirds, reduce their susceptibility to further energy price shocks, and reduce local pollution. (Don't confuse this technology with that of deep geothermal wells; ground source heat pumps will work almost anywhere).

Geothermal (or Ground Source Heat Pump) Systems have been used in the United States for over 30 years. They have long been popular in the East where energy prices have always been much higher than in Colorado. The recent increases in the prices of natural gas and propane in Colorado have moved Geothermal Systems from just being a 'green' energy saving investment to a compelling economic proposition. Paybacks of 4 to 6 years can be expected when compared to burning propane, and paybacks of 10 to 15 years when compared to natural gas.

A geothermal system works in the winter by taking heat from the ground and using it to heat the house. In the summer heat is taken from the house and injected into the ground. This provides a super-efficient heating and cooling system. For a more detailed explanation, click here.
